Privacy Policy
Effective August 5, 2026
Voxolo ("Voxolo," "we," "us," or "our") makes a mobile app that helps people learn to speak a new language before a trip. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain language on purpose — if anything is unclear, email us at hello@voxolo.app.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
When you set up Voxolo, you tell it things like your name, destination, trip date, current language level, daily practice time, and interests. This is used to build your personalized learning plan and is stored locally on your device, not on our servers.
Voice and speech data
Voxolo's core feature is spoken conversation practice. When you use the microphone, your speech is processed in order to: (a) convert what you say into text, and (b) generate the AI tutor's spoken and written replies. This processing is done using Apple's on-device Speech framework and/or our AI service provider (OpenAI), depending on the feature. We do not use your voice recordings to build a personal voice profile, and we do not sell voice data.
Learning & progress data
Your streaks, completed lessons, scores, and review history are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device storage (SwiftData). This data is not transmitted to us except where needed to power a specific feature, such as sending your current level and interests to our AI tutor so it can tailor a conversation to you.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We never see or store your payment card details — Apple manages billing and shares with us only that a purchase was made, so we can unlock premium features.
Automatically collected information
Like most apps, our backend infrastructure providers may automatically log standard technical information (such as request timestamps and error logs) to keep the service running reliably and securely.
Website analytics
This website uses Plausible Analytics to understand which pages people find useful. Plausible is privacy-focused and, unlike most analytics tools, it does not use cookies, does not store any information on your device, and does not collect or store any personal or identifiable data. Nothing it records can be used to identify you or to follow you across other websites, which is why this site shows no cookie consent banner.
What is measured is aggregate and anonymous: page views, the country your visit came from (derived from your IP address, which is never stored), the type of device and browser, the referring site, and any campaign tag in the link you arrived through. We also record two anonymous, aggregate counts — when someone joins the email list, and when someone clicks through to the App Store — so we can tell which pages are doing their job. These counts contain no email address and no personal data.
Plausible is EU-based, and the data it collects for this site is processed and stored within the EU.
If you sign up for our email list, the campaign tag from the link you arrived through is stored with your signup so we know which of our own pages or ads brought you. See Email list below.
Email list
If you enter your email address to hear about the app or receive travel tips, we store that address together with the languages and topics you selected, the page you signed up from, and any campaign tag as described above. Signups are handled by Netlify Forms. We use this only to send the emails you asked for, every one of which has an unsubscribe link. We do not sell or rent this list.
2. How We Use Information
- To build and adjust your personalized learning plan
- To power live AI conversation practice, pronunciation feedback, and text-to-speech
- To operate, maintain, and improve the app
- To respond to your support requests and feedback
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
3. Third-Party Service Providers
To deliver Voxolo's features, we share limited information with the following service providers, who process it on our behalf:
- OpenAI — processes conversation text and/or voice audio to generate the AI tutor's replies, feedback, and spoken voice responses. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
- Supabase — hosts the backend infrastructure that connects the app to OpenAI. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
- Apple — provides on-device speech recognition, app distribution, and subscription billing (StoreKit). See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Plausible Analytics — measures aggregate, anonymous website traffic. No cookies, no personal data, EU-hosted. Website only; it is not present in the app. See Plausible's Data Policy.
- Netlify — hosts this website and receives email-list signups submitted through it. See Netlify's Privacy Policy.
These providers may process information on servers located in the United States or other countries.
4. Data Storage & Retention
Most of your personal learning data (profile, plan, progress, streaks) lives locally on your device and is deleted automatically if you delete the app. Text and audio sent to our AI service providers during a conversation are used to generate a response and are not stored by us beyond what's needed to operate the feature; retention by our service providers is governed by their own policies linked above.
5. Children's Privacy
Voxolo is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
6. Your Choices
- You can deny microphone or speech-recognition permission, though this will limit speaking-practice features.
- You can delete all locally stored data by deleting the app from your device.
- You can email hello@voxolo.app with any privacy question or request.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures (such as encrypted connections) to protect information in transit. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as Voxolo evolves. We'll update the "Effective" date above when we do. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
